Deacon Jesse Lee Avent

CaptureDeacon Jesse Lee Avent was born on April 13, 1956, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, to the late Johnny John Avent and Frances Annabell Avent. He answered God’s call to eternal rest and peace on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at his home in Roanoke Rapids.

Jesse received his formal education in the Halifax County Public School System. During his early life, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. His loving and compassionate spirit led him to serve the Lord with ALL his heart, mind and soul. In 2007, he joined the Colors of the Ministry Discipleship Training and Worship under the leadership of Minister Deborah Robinson, where he was licensed as a Deacon in 2008.

In October 1990, Jesse was united in Holy Matrimony to his beautiful and devoted wife, Penny Avent. This union blessed them into a blended family of children, grandchildren, his cat and dog, Red and Simon, and his bird, who guarded him and served as his best friends during his illness.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, James Avent.

Those left to forever cherish the precious memory of his life are his loving wife, Evangelist Penny Avent of the home; his son, Derick Harvey of Gaston, NC; his daughter, Jessica Lashley of Brooklyn, NY;  six siblings, John, Wayne, Marshall, Greg, Wanda, and Frances Avent all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three stepsons, Johnny Ross of Enfield, NC, James Ross of Hallandale, FL, and Robert Williams of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one stepdaughter, Bobbie Sue of Roanoke Rapids, NC; twelve grandchildren, Heaven Guity, Jayden Lashley, Curtis, Jr. and Kyle Ross all of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew Ross, Robert, Josh, and Justin Hester all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Steven and Tyler Ross of Hallandale, FL, and Evan and Nathan Geise of Minnesota; five nephews, Antwan Smith, Antonio and Marco Avent all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Dominique and Wallace Boone of Jackson, NC; five nieces, Kizzie Ponton (Damon) and Gaynelle Boone of Raleigh, NC, Dewanda Avent, Shalisha Smith and Makisha Avent-Hicks all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the Mystique Multi-Venue Complex, US Highway 125, Roanoke Rapids. Minister Deborah Robinson will eulogize.
