Virginia Louise Bowers Williams

CaptureVirginia Louise Bowers Williams, daughter of Elizabeth Alston Bowers and the late James Edward Bowers, was born on March 5, 1950, in Warren County, North Carolina, and departed this earthly life on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

Her formal education was received in the public schools of Halifax County, North Carolina, and she attended the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina, and the former John Armstrong Chaloner High School in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. During her early life, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton.

Virginia was a very loving, loyal and devoted mother, sister, and friend to all who knew her. She loved cooking and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her two sons, Kenneth Nathaniel Williams and Alvin Williams; her maternal grandparents, Mint and Maggie Alston; her paternal grandparents, Thomas and Mammie Bowers; and her brother, Melvin Bowers.

Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memory of her life are her daughters, Julia Teresa Williams Graham and Shannon D. Dudley (Cordral) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; her three sons, Sherman M. Williams (Jeniece) of Willingboro, NJ, Rodney A. Williams of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Jasper T. Williams (Mya) of Greensboro, NC; a grandson and great-grandson she reared as her own, Se’qwaun L. Hawkins and Se’von Williams Sledge of the home; fourteen other grandchildren; eight other great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lucille Harvey and Marie Jefferson of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Madeline F. Bowers (Timothy) of Weldon, NC, and Martha Taylor of Littleton, NC; one brother, James Bowers of Littleton, NC; another son-in-law, Kenny L. Graham of Enfield, NC; a longtime devoted companion, Jasper Laster of the home; a dedicated daughter of the heart and special friend of the family, Mary K. McCrae of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Christopher Mallory will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Littleton, North Carolina. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 17, 2014, from 7:00-8:00 P.M.
